About

Samantha

Samantha is a social worker registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). Samantha began her career as a Child and Youth Worker, supporting children and families and then later went on to earn her Master of Social Work Degree from Dalhousie University.

Samantha has worked in a variety of settings and with diverse clients, providing long-term and brief interventions. She specializes in working with children, youth and families and emphasizes being strengths-based with her clients. Rather than adopting one methodology for all individuals and issues, Samantha pulls from a variety of methods to create a tailored approach for each client. Some of these therapeutic modalities include Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Play Therapy (DIR® Model), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Therapy.

Samantha strongly believes that transformation happens when people can draw on their strengths and are given the support that they need.  Samantha approaches therapy in a way that encourages her clients to be reflective, so they can answer questions about themselves and have healthier dialogues to make positive changes.

In addition to Daurio Counselling, Samantha is currently employed at a Children's Aid Society. Samantha prides herself on working from an anti-oppressive framework and strengths-based approach, to adequately respond to the needs of the families and children that she serves.
